Easter weekend crime and incident report

Provo

Police have named a man who died in Provo on Saturday. American tourist, Leon Huebner, 80, was taken ill after getting into difficulties while snorkelling off Grace Bay. He was rushed to the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre where extensive attempts to revive him failed. He was pronounced dead by doctors at 2.50pm.

Police are investigating a number of burglaries in Provo over the Easter weekend. These include break-ins at Kew Town, the Golf Club, Cooper Jack, Leeward Palms and the Sexy Closet store at Graceway Plaza. Incidents were also reported in Five Cays and Grace Bay.

Sunglasses, credit cards and a cell phone were taken from a guest room at Beaches, sometime during the day on Monday.

A quantity of illegal drugs, including cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis, was seized by officers following a search of a property in Kew Town. Three people are being questioned in connection with the find.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a vehicle was taken from Provo International Airport car park. The red Suzuki Swift, registration TC5544, disappeared sometime overnight between Thursday and Good Friday. The car, belonging to Avis Car Hire, was later found abandoned and damaged in Kew Town.

A man is being questioned followed an alleged sexual assault in Provo in the early hours of Good Friday.

Grand Turk

A teenager is recovering in hospital following a diving accident in Grand Turk. The 17-year-old American tourist got into difficulties while learning to dive under the supervision of highly trained and experienced instructors. He was one of 16 people on the organised outing.

The victim was pulled from the sea and received emergency first aid aboard a dive boat before being transported to the Cruise Centre where he was met by a medical team from InterHealth Canada. He was then rushed to the Cockburn Town Medical Centre before being airlifted to a hospital in the USA.

The incident, which happened just before 3pm on Wednesday, is now being investigated by officers from the RTCI Police.

Police have launched an investigation following the death of a tourist in Grand Turk on Monday. A 62-year-old man got into difficulties while snorkelling off the island and was taken aboard a boat where dive instructors administered emergency treatment.

He was brought back to shore and rushed to the Cockburn Town Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead at 1.10pm. The victim is believed to have been a passenger on a visiting cruise ship.
