The new stop signs installed at roundabouts on Providenciales’ Leeward Highway are proving to be ineffective, according to reports from the most populated island.
Due to the high level of serious accidents at these traffic interchanges, traffic lights were also under consideration. However, Premier Rufus Ewing reportedly insisted on the use of stop signs.
It is now apparent that drivers are ignoring the stop signs and not stopping as they enter the roundabouts.
However, police have not been issuing tickets for those ignoring the signs and have told the public the use of the signs is only temporary, apparently leading drivers to treat the signs as optional not mandatory.
