Letter: It's not personal - it is about the party
Published on November 19, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir:

The press release by Floyd Seymour is bad for the PDM and the effort it will make to win the government in the by-elections. Whether you like the leader of the PDM, the Hon Skippings, or not, what Floyd Seymour did was wrong. He said in his release that he was attacked and not given a chance to defend himself. Why is Seymour trying to divide the PDM? The public don't need to hear this. Let's get a grip here.

He is a former party leader and could demand a party meeting to address all of his issues inside the party and not outside. Throughout the whole campaign there were many reports that former leaders such as Seymour were actively campaigning against the leader. Seymour denies this. What do we believe? We can never know but Seymour is angry and people know he carries grudges home.

This new rift in the party may also explain why the PDM did so well but fell short of 8 seats to grab the government. This attack on the sitting PDM leader seems personal but Seymour and his people need to know that the PDM is bigger than them. Many persons want to defend his airing party dirty linen in the media but will not say that this is wrong for the party.

As leader of the PDM, Seymour led them to a terrible defeat with two seats and the 2007 election. Under Skippings, like him or not, he led the PDM to a seven-seat gain, huge majorities where they won and slim majorities where the PNP stole seats. It is not over yet because there will be by-elections and the PDM may well be the government. There could be general elections again.

So Seymour needs to fall in line, give up his anger and hatred, demand a meeting of the party and mend fences. If not, then Seymour has his own agenda and is too big for the PDM. In politics, people will defend you if you are right. Let's see what happens.
