The ministry of border control and labour has confirmed the landing of an illegal vessel on Governor’s Beach, Grand Turk, on Wednesday.
The ministry advised that, at approximately 7.30 am on Wednesday morning, a vessel carrying illegal migrants from Haiti made landfall in the Governor’s Beach area.
Authorities have not been able to confirm the number of people who arrived on the vessel; however, it has been confirmed that 17 individuals were apprehended with the assistance of border control officers and other law enforcement partners. A search for those who may have already blended with the community continues.
The public of Grand Turk has been reminded that, under Section 70 of the Immigration Ordinance:
Any person who knowingly harbours any person who is in the Islands in contravention of the (Immigration) Ordinance commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $10,000 or to imprisonment for a period of two years or both.
