Caribbean Cruisin' announces weekly ferry service to the Big South
Published on May 7, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

Taking the next step in connecting the islands, Caribbean Cruisin’ last week announced the start of a twice weekly ferry service to South Caicos.

Starting on Friday, May 4, 2012, the TCI ferry service will run to South Caicos twice weekly, with extended and charter services for special events such as the South Caicos Regatta.

The new service will operate on Mondays and Fridays, leaving the ferry docks at Heaving Down Marina, Leeward Highway East at 7:30 am, taking approximately an hour and a half to cross to South Caicos, arriving at 9:00 am. The return trip will leave South Caicos at 3:30 pm and arrive in Providenciales at approximately 5:00 pm.

The new service is aimed at making travel between the islands easier for residents, workers and tourists alike. The schedule has been designed to allow folks on either South or Provo to complete their travel needs with the fast, comfortable and safe TCI ferry service.

“An important part of this service is opening up South Caicos to tourists who can now spend either a day, a long weekend or even a week in The Big South,” said Caribbean Cruisin’ partner John Lawson.

Roger Halliday, manager of Caribbean Cruisin’, said, “There has been a demand for a regular ferry service between Provo and South for some time now, and I am very happy that we can now offer this service to our customers. The start of construction at Sailrock in South Caicos has given us the opportunity to start the service now, we foresee more people will need to travel to South as the developments advance and South Caicos is revitalized. Now workers and prospective investors and residents will have a quick and economical option to get to and from South Caicos.”

Caribbean Cruisin’ has operated the TCI Ferry between Provo and North Caicos for over seven years. With tens of thousands of passengers every year, it is the primary method of transportation between the two islands. The company also operates a fleet of charter vessels and offers a personal water craft safari trip to see the islands by water.
