Sports Commission on target
Published on September 22, 2008Email To Friend    Print Version

(TCI-GIS): The Turks and Caicos Islands Sports Commission continues to endorse its purpose and reason for operation as it seeks to assist schools in their quest for total sports development.

The Commission's most recent gesture came a few days into the reopening of school year, as the Director, Alvin Parker, lived up to his promise and commitment in donating equipment and supplies to the physical education department of the Ianthe Pratt Primary school in the Lower Bight, Providenciales.

In a brief address to the school population at its general assembly, Parker made it clear that the Sports Commission is committed to seeing the rapid and meaningful growth and development of sports in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

This, he said, cannot come to reality if quality attention is not focused on the youths, thus the onus is to start with our primary schools, giving students a solid foundation in sport discipline.

The Director went on to acknowledge the fact that it is rather pointless for one to be desirous in getting very good results in sport without adequate mechanisms in place.

Here, he said: "Society has to be willing and ready to make long term investments in our young people, even though results will not come over night, but one has to be willing to make a start."
